Life Racing has a more than 20 year deep & direct involvement with teams and series such as WEC LMP1, LMP2, Indy Lights control electronics, TCR series, GTC series, Formula-4. M-Sport has built & supplied hundreds of R5 Rally with Life Racing electronics.
Life Racing F88 ECU
The F88-ULT has an extensive range of inputs & outputs to support the most demanding applications up to 8 cylinders (4 rotors).Inputs;* 24 x multi purpose inputs plus 2x wideband lambda controllers, plus 2x on board EGT inputs/amplifiers plus 4x knock sensor inputs.The number of inputs is expandable via optional expander units &/or dash &/or Power distribution units on CAN.Sensor voltage supply pins are configurable from 5V to 12V.Outputs;* 16x Injector/auxiliary outputs (unused injector outputs may be used as auxiliary outputs switched or PWM)* 4x half bridge outputs configurable as 4x pwm or switched outputs or 2x full bridge outputs or drive by wire throttle control.* 8x Ignition outputs (unused ign outputs may be used as auxiliary outputs switched or PWM)The number of outputs is expandable via optional expander units &/or dash &/or Power distribution units on CAN.Communications;3x CAN, 1x serial, 1x Ethernet.

The following features are included as STANDARD on ALL of the Life Racing ecus
- All models have at least 1 on board wide band lambda sensor controller included (no messy external controllers) along with closed loop mixture control you can trust on full load with advanced strategies & sensor validation.
- All models have advanced closed loop knock control included with at least 2 knock sensor inputs. (except F88-RL base model)
- Drive by wire throttle control. All Life racing ecu’s can control at least one DBW throttle with out the need for external controllers. DBW may be fully integrated into advanced functions such as down change throttle blip along with many other advanced functions. (except F88-RL base model)
- User defined multi use 3D & 2D table system that allows powerful custom strategies.
- Continuously variable cam control.
- All models have advanced data logging included. Logging is cyclic so a log of the last engine running is always available without having to remember to clear the last logs or turn on the logging each time.
- Logging rates up to 1000hz. Logged channels are fully customizable along with individual logging rates and logging start stop conditions. Such high rates are required for knock control, gear cut/shift.
- The ability to log literally hundreds of channels/parameters. A typical installation typically loggs between 150 to 500 items. Other common brands only offer 15 items (“upgradable” to 25) – Life Racing logs 30 items for knock control alone.
- "Event" logging and "Burst" logging functions effectively extend the logging memory available far beyond other ecu’s with similar logging memory while allowing events to be captured at high logging rates.
- Fast reliable 100Mhz Ethernet PC connection for ecu coms & data download. Eg 8MB of data can be downloaded in under 10 seconds. Other brands of ecu actually restrict the logging capacity as the log down load time is painfully slow due to the serial connection used (on board serial to USB converter)
- Comprehensive & easy to use data log viewing software including distance or time x-axis, advanced maths functions, overlays, track mapping, lap reports, scatter plots & histograms & many other advanced features. Software suit also includes monitoring software (separate to the tuning software) to allow monitoring of ECU channels, errors & diagnosing problems by the end user without the worry of interfering with the configuration or tune.
- Advanced intelligent engine protection system including oil pressure, differential fuel pressure, coolant temp, coolant pressure, oil temp, crank case pressure, battery voltage, warmup, lean-on- load, throttle stuck open, knock individual cylinder shut down & full knock shut down. The system has comprehensive advanced parameter settings to prevent false trips.
- Advanced Engine Log book facility to track a comprehensive range of cumulative engine parameters to asses if the engine has run under adverse conditions and to track its service life.
- Real time clock means events logged in ecu are recorded against actual time & date.
- Processing: Powerful RISC CPU for advanced strategy execution in addition to a Custom synchronous FPGA processor for engine position tracking and output diagnostics up to 25,000rpm. If a triggering fault occurs the ecu will cease spark & fuel rather than just “guess” unlike other brands.
- Advanced closed loop boost control with multiple driver selectable boost level targets/ multiple strategies including post turbo restrictor pressure control, turbo speed control, along with conventional manifold pressure based control.
- Multiple strategy system allow fuel/ignition maps, boost maps, launch control maps & numerous other tables/strategies/functions to be driver selectable on the fly via multi position switches.
- True 4-dimensional fuel & ignition maps options.
- Advanced map editing features including "pasteCal" for comparing to files & "pasting in" various tables & items.
- Advanced closed loop gear cut/flat shift strategies for dog shift transmission utilising strain gauge sensors & gear position sensors .as opposed to crude cut & hope strategies of other brands.
- Throttle blip function for gear shift down shifts (open or closed loop).

- Ignition outputs are IGBT (meaning they can run an inductive ignition coil directly with out the need for an external igniter), or user software configurable to be a TTL drive to operate external igniters if required.

- All models have built in trigger scope for setup & diagnostics. This function automatically records in the event of errors so there is always a scope capture log of the last running.
- Comprehensive diagnostics including real time monitoring & ability to log all sensor parameters & ecu functions.
- 2x CAN bus. Preset templates or fully customizable for communication with Life Racing or third party controllers, expanders or logger/display systems such as Motec. Able to transmit up to 160 channels & receive up to 64 channels.
- RS232 serial for communication with other controllers or logging systems.
- All models use a CNC machined, 'o'ring sealed, anodised aluminium case.
- Free regular software and firmware updates ensures that the system continues to evolve after purchase
